Full Version: JC while breastfeeding?

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who is also on JC and breastfeeding.
I just started the program a week ago and was told that I should be on the 2300 cal menu but that seems like so much! After my first weigh in, I only lost 1 lb and the only thing I cheated on was reducing the calories to 2000. I also did heaps of cardio and started a weight training program, small but a start. I never felt hungry so I'm wondering if I can reduce the calories even more. My JCC consultant wants me to take the full 2300 so I just wanted to see if anyone else out there had any feedback to offer.
btw, my milk supply doesn't seem to have been affected. After all, I may only be eating 2000 cal but these are all good calories where as before I was eating a lot of chips and chocolate and and and....none of which was healthy.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have.

You need the additional calories when you are nursing. They would not put you on higher calories if you didn't need it. You need the additional nutrients and calories at this time. How long are you planning to nurse??
Increase your cardio to a comfortble rate but don't short change yourself in the calorie and nutrition dept.
Have you been doing all the cardio and weight training before you started Jenny Craig? Sometimes when you start a new weight training program the body starts haning on to water in the muscles.
With everything you are doing you need togive you body some time and the weight will come off!

First of all, how old is your baby and how often are you nursing?
I'm still nursing, but it's only 2-3 times a day for bonding. Since his first bday he's been drinking cow's milk and he eats regular food. I don't need as much milk production as I did the first year.
You need the calories for the quality of your baby's milk. He/she needs the fat. Give the diet more time. If nothing changes after a few weeks I would have your counselor adjust your plan.
Look at my profile it's working for me! Good luck!

Thank you both so much for your help.
My little one is only 3mo and her well being is most important to me above all so I will keep to the 2300 as suggested.
It was lack of sleep in the early months coupled with some PP depression that added on those additional pounds and I'm bugged that I let that happen. I'm anxious to go back to normal for me.
Thanks again for your posts.

I actually have been nursing my daughter for almost 9 months now... I, too was told to be on the 2300 diet. I spoke to my pediatrician and personal doctor before reducing to the 2000 calorie diet. I was told taht if I was to increase/add cardio to my routine and weight training while continuing to breastfeed, I needed to remain on the 2300 calorie diet. i did and the weight loss has been slower than say someone who isn't breastfeeding and trying to lose weight, but it has been consistent.

I would recommend re-evaluating why you are breastfeeding. For me, the benefits it has given and will give my daughter are more important than dropping the weight quickly. Both are importatn, but in about 4 weeks, we will stop nursing and then I can focus more intensly on my weight lose. I run about 2-3 miles a day and do light resistence training since my daughter was 4 months. I promise... it is worth the patience. I have learned how to approach eating and my food in an entirely different way, so I am actually excited to see what happens when I do stop nursing soon.

My best wishes to you as you enjoy this journey. It is an adjustment, but it is an extremely wonderful journey.

This is my first time using the community forum and was immediately drawn to your request for others like you in your situation.

First of all I totally agree with the other Mom's when they advise to use patience and be kind to yourself during this period of transition for both you and the baby. You want to make sure if nursing is important to you that you do everything you can to protect your milk supply for the baby. And this is what JC is trying to help you do by eating sensibly and not gaining weight during the process. Somehow during the nursing stage for all 3 of my boys I inevitably gained weight. My appetite is just through the roof sometimes. JC has helped me curb that right now. I am currently nurisng my 10 month old and have been on JC for 10 weeks now. I am consuming about 1800 calories daily, running 2-3 miles about 4/5 times per week and drinking LOTS of water and drinking LOTS of nursing mothers tea. I drink it cold and hot. I have experienced no problems with my milk supply and am loosing between 2/3 lbs per week. I'm not saying this calorie level is for every nurisng mother but this is working for me and I am content for right now. If I were having any negative side effects with my nursing I would put myself on a higher caloric intake immediately. But so far, so good.

The biggest thing for you to remember is to not be so hard on yourself if your only loosing 1lb per week. The good news is....you have a healthy baby, your providing nutritious milk for him/her and your not gaining weight in the process. Sounds like your doing well to me! Keep up the great work!

Hopefully I have done this right and my reply goes through.

I have totally gotten frustrated. I am also on a 2300 calorie diet. I have been on the program for two and a half months now, and I have only lost 10 lbs. I was really expecting to be losing more. I have attempted to reduce the calorie intake, but it doesn't make a difference... I still do not loose more than a pound. Any suggestions? I have been contemplating to stop JC until I am finally done with nursing my son.
