Full Version: 1st Day of 10,000 Daily Step October Challenge
Jenny Craig > eJenny Challenges > Fitness Challenge
I Called Jenny
OK, all of you walkers. It's October 1st and the first day of the challenge to walk 10,000 steps each day for a month to see if the extra walking results in a larger weight loss at the end of the month.
I'll post tomorrow so we can list what we were able to walk today.
So put on that music or whatever you listen to and walk, walk, walk.
BTW, for those of you who can't get outdoors to walk, check your cable company for exercise TV. My company, Comcast, offers in its OnDemand section walking shows by Leslie Sansone. She's annoyingly perky - LOL - but her workouts are quick and terrific to get the walking done indoors.
JC offers her tapes for sale at their centers and their under $10.
Good luck!

I LOVE Leslie Sansone - you are so lucky to get her broadcasts. I bought one of her videos. She is perky but so nice and encouraging also, seems very sincere, even on tape!
Last 3 days I have monitored my steps and even with some planned activity (like Curves or treadmill) 6500 seems to be as much as I log so I plan to post my steps every day no matter what and work at increasing them every chance I get!
Good Luck to all - let's work on it together!
Ladybug 88
OK - didn't make it to 10,000 but I did get to 8200 so that is better for sure than my normal average. I will work on it again tomorrow and am happy to have increased my steps today.
.
Tomorrow I have a class in the evening so am a little worried but will find ways to add in some steps during my day (I have to get creative about this!).

I didn't see this post, but i am up for the challenage. I walk every morning with my daughter in the stroller. I will post later today!
work in progress
Hi Everybody,
I'm up for joining this challenge...thanks Ladybug for suggesting it.
Yesterday I logged 6442 steps so I guess it's going to be a struggle to get to 10,000 but hey I'm willing to give it a good try
gottadoitnow
Okay, I did 12,486 steps yesterday. That includes a 2 mile walk while waiting for my son's football game to start and then walking during the game (just watching the game). I use the JC one and haven't had any problems. I really like it and try to beat it every day. I, like Shogo, walk as much as I can at work, park as far away as possible and take the longest route to the ladies room.
Have a great day ladies.

Congrats everyone on such a good start!
My JC pedometer only marked 3,897 steps HOWEVER, I walked more than FIVE MILES! I must take REALLY big steps. LOL
Can't get to the store to buy another one today so I guess I'll have to keep track of miles for now.
Let's keep the momentum going!

Well, I posted in new member section already and didn't see this one till now. Sorry about that.
Mondays are our busiest and longest days. I took 21,783 steps. I was on my feet from 6am to 7pm...and that was just work! With the pedometer on, I do find myself trying to get in extra steps. I wish everyone well. Do your best and try to add on what you can...and not what someone else does.

Hi Everyone..
I counted steps for the first time today and walked 12,154 steps!
Out of the 12,154, 6786 were aerobic steps and it was a total of almost 5 miles!
I am really proud of myself.. I pushed myself to get there..
I normally walk 30 minutes at work daily which is about 2 miles.. but when it was about 9pm and I was at 9300 steps, I also made myself get on my elliptical to get upto my 10k but exceeded!!
I definately tried to walk more.. get up from my desk etc today to make them count!!
How is everyone else doing..?
I Called Jenny
Congrats! That's a great achievement.
This challenge is actually posted in two places -- on this board and also on the New Members board.
Most of the people on the New Members board reached or came close to reaching their goal. One gal did almost 25,000 steps! Really impressive.
The point is that we get out there and do it and I must say that starting this challenge has forced me out of complacency to complete my 10,000 step goal.
So thanks to everyone who has joined in.
Hopefully we'll all see results soon.

OK - day 2 and I made it to 10,021 steps! Headed for bed now; if it wasn't for this challenge there is no way I would have made it - but after coming home from my discussion group this evening I was only at about 4200 steps so I watched Biggest Loser on tape and kept getting on my treadmill until I reached goal! Woohoo!

Well have been walking and forgot teh pedometer Ahh thats what I get. I am putting it on TODAY!!

I would love to join this challenge, Monday I had 15,000 steps - that includes the 30 minutes on the eliptical. Yesterday Tuesday only 5,000 - but I biked for 90 minutes and it doesn't count the pedaling.
Going for my 45 minute lunch walk today so I am all set for 10k.

Yesterday I did 10,178 which is a lot lower than the day before, but that is ok. Work is slower right now, so my steps will be lower. I still try to add more and will continue to do so. I think it is great that everyone is doing their best and trying for more than they normally do.

Okey doke - I am at 4200 and heading out to Curves. Will see where I am at when I get home and try to top it up on the treadmill later!

Well I had an interesting WI today. It was good news/bad news.
The bad news is that I gained .2 lbs. I know, not a lot.
However, I started to do the 10,000 steps about two weeks ago so I was curious if the exercise had made a difference in my figure.
I actually lost 2.5 inches of belly fat and .5 in my waist. The counselors were so surprised at the belly fat loss in just two weeks that they checked it three times! LOL
So the scale didn't go down but the inches sure have. I'm sure the weight will follow and I'll keep up the aerobic walking.
Continued success to everyone on reaching their walking goals!

Phyllis that is awesome!
I am hoping to have similar results..
I walked 12,342 steps today..
I tried to take the long route everywhere and did my usual lunch walk.. then forced myself onto my elliptical tonight for more fun.. lol..
I read to lose weight you should be walking 12k-15k steps per day.. so really trying to make 12k my goal..
I am excited to weigh in next week to see the results.. the awesome thing is it will be my 4th week so I will be measured too..
Ok have a nice night. I will check in tomorrow..
Good job everyone!
Ladybug 88
Hey - let me get the 10,000 thing down pat first - will ya??
.
It is bedtime and I may walk around my room a little but I am basically calling it a night. My pedometer reads 9441 right this second so I am a little short but very, very close. Thank you for this challenge!
Especially for any Canadians on the boards - we have our Thanksgiving holiday next weekend (the stat is Monday Oct 8th) - so the timing of this could not have been better!

Had a migraine last night so I was only able to do about 4 miles yesterday but today is a new day and I have a new pedometer (hope it's accurate) so we'll see if I can do better today.
Phyllis

Hope you are feeling better Phyllis.
Well I survived Day 3 barely.. lol..
It was very humid here today.. but I forced myself to do my 12k steps..
At the moment it reads, 12,302 steps and 4.46 miles..
Being I am only 4'11 my stride is smaller so my distance isn't as great as what a normal height person would be.. lol.. but hey I am doing it..
I know its bad.. but I have been getting on the scale every morning.. and its already down 1 lb as of this am.. so I think this is helping..
I will not check in tomorrow as I am going out after work.. but will catch you all sometime this weekend..
Keep up the good work!!

Well I bought ANOTHER pedometer today. This one STILL doesn't work. In fact, I wore three of them when I took my five mile walk and not one of them registered over 5,000 steps! Arggghhhh
I guess I'll just have to measure this in miles and I know 5 miles is more than 10,000 steps.
Unfortunately, my scale is being as stingy with the weight as my pedometers are with the steps. No loss.
I'll keep repeating -- "Muscle weighs more than fat, muscle weighs more than fat, muscle weighs more..."
And, thanks, yes, I'm feeling better today.
Ladybug 88
Hi challengers - well I am at 6292 and plan to do 2 miles on the treadmill while I watch Survivor - so feel I am on track for my 10,000 steps today.
I went for a 15 min walk during lunch break - but I was so full I think it would be better to do it before I eat, if I can make myself wait for my food!
Ladybug 88
I called JC - we posted at the same time! I cannot believ your luck - another pedometer is showing so low??. I will pay attention tonight to what 2 miles adds to my count for you. I thought it was roughly 2000 steps per mile.

Thanks! That would be very helpful to know how many steps are in a mile...or even an approximation.
Ladybug 88
OK - here is the hard data:
1 mile on my treadmill = 1830 steps. Of course my stride length might be longer or shorter than yours (I am 5' 4.5"). As my quick walk has been described as "scurrying", I think my stride is probably not particularly long, but those that described me that way were all taller lol!
my step total now is 10,497! Yay! Nightie night all.

Thanks, LadyBug! I'm only 5'2 so I don't imagine my stride is more than 18".
Anyway, I can measure the miles and now I have a general idea of the steps.
Thanks again and g'night!

starting this weekend! thanks for the exercise boost and getting me ready for my 3 day walk!
Ladybug 88
honestly - I came here to post my defeat and disgust with myself, I ate a cup or more of regular potato chips and had only reached 6700 steps and was going to bed, bummed.
Then I came here and thought - no way am I going to wuss out on day#5 and I got myself onto the treadmill and I now have 10,337 steps! I am so happy!(except for the chip thing - skipped my bar because of it).
I Called Jenny
Ladybug, good for you! I'm so proud of you. Yes, you ate the chips (naughty, naughty - LOL) but you didn't waste the day. You took charge and completed the day on a high note. Way to go!
Phyllis
Ladybug 88
Much better day today - although had another handful of the dang chips and then you know what?? I threw them away. 1/2 a bag or more - poof, gone, in the trash. Now that is a NSV! I am at 7539 steps now so s/b over 10,000 before beddie bye!
Ladybug 88
yup, got to 10,400 yesterday!
Today however, not so much. It is Canadian Thanksgiving and had a very low step count today. NO chips! I did convince myself to go 1 mile on treadmill but think I will end up with about 7500 total. I am OK with that, believe me last year I would not have gone on the treadmill at all!
I hope no one minds but I think I'll start a new thread tomorrow titled "10,000 steps a day club - daily check-in)" as this one still says day 1! Then we can post there everyday (keeps me accountable ).
