Welcome to the JUNE FITNESS CHALLENGE!!
Hey everyone! The goal of the challenge is simple, it is about pushing yourself to reach some personal goals of time spent doing physical activity in the month. It's not about competing with one another, on the contrary, we are here to support each other in our quests to become fitter! Everyone is welcome to join in, whether this is your first month taking part, or if you are a member from the past, this challenge is for you and all about you. YOU set the goals of what you can reasonably attain, be realistic, and don't be afraid to challenge yourself a little. You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it!
Now on to the details...(mostly cut and pasted from past monthly challenges)...
As you know, we now do things a little differently. Every participant will keep track of their own "workout stats" and totals in our Yahoo Database, located here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/month...ness_challenge/
You will need a Yahoo Email address in order to participate, and you will need to add your own name to the June Fitness Challenge as follows:
Look on the left hand side, in the pink area of the page, one of the links down that side is called "Database". Click on that, then you will reach our "database page" and you will see the name of the May Fitness challenge "June 2007 - Monthly Fitness Challenge" in the white section under "tables".
Click on that link (June 2007 - Monthly Fitness Challenge), and you will enter the place where to pledge and keep track of your stats.
To add your name, you click on "Add Record", then you put your name and the number of hours you want to pledge, and click on "Add record" and your name will be added.
When you want to go back and add in your workout hours, you go to the table itself (where you see all the names listed).
At the end (on the left side) of each person's "line" where you see everybody's name in the table, there is two actions your can take "edit" or "delete"
Click on Edit, at the end of your own line, then you can add in your time of your workouts, then click on "Save record" and your own line will be updated with your workout time(s).
I have already posted my pledge to show you all what we will put in each field.
NOTE: I will not be accepting anyone signing up for the challenge on this JC thread. Everyone who wants to join us has to sign-up for the challenge on the Yahoo Database by themselves.
PLEASE, also make sure to use the same SCREEN NAME that you use on the JC Board, so that we can easily identify you in the Database!
The thread here on the JC board will only be for talking about the challenge, fitness, nutrition, workout videos, and posting our daily workouts (still mandatory), but I will not keep track of workout times, and all stats related to the challenge will be updated by each participant on the Yahoo Database.
Are you READY?
Pledge your hours and GO! GO! GO!
AndreaN
Hi everyone!! I've gone ahead and created the database for June (hope you don't mind Catgrrl - I know you're busy).
I'm pledging 20 hours for June. I leave for vacation on the 23rd, and even though I'll be working out, I'm not sure how much time I'm going to be spending on the computer.
Oh, and I'm probably dating myself with the thread title, but "June is Bustin' Out All Over" is a song from the musical "Carousel".
LastTime4Me
Thanks for starting the new database Andrea! Here I was all ready to get back into this thread and there was no June database. I was afraid that it had finally come to an end. I know I've been MIA around the exercise threads for about six weeks now and it's catching up with me, so I finally started walking again a couple weeks ago. My goal for June is just to get back into a steady routine and to walk at least 10 hours and to start adding a little strength training back in. Hopefully, we can get some more folks to join us and keep this thread active!
Let's get moving everyone!
Debbie T

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!

Just reporting today's exercise: walked 42 minutes (2.1 miles)
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I walked 41 minutes on Saturday, which was also around 2 miles.
erika3536
50 min walk last night, around 3 miles.
my back hurts when I finish my walks - do you think I need new sneakers?
Debbie T
Hi guys,
Rained out yesterday morning, but got an hour walk in this morning.
Debbie
AndreaN
Hey there...did an hour on the crosstrainer, and then 30 minutes weights/abs/stretching.
Erika, it does sound like you might need some new sneakers. How old are the ones you are wearing?

Erika, I would definitely consider trying some new shoes. I had some old Reeboks I was walking in last year and I was miserable. My back would hurt, I would get a leg cramp, I got blisters between my toes. After test running about four pairs of shoes, I finally found a pair of New Balance that are perfect for me. Now, I have no pains at all
erika3536
They're about 2 years old... I'll look into some new ones this weekend. I think I need to have my feet measured, and I haven't done that since I was a kid! My size 10s are a little floppy on my feet now...who knew you could lose weight in your feet?!
I walk most of the time, and run sometimes...what's everyone's thoughts on running vs walking vs cross-trainer sneakers?
wegastar
Hi Everyone,
I hope you don't mind me joining in. I'll pledge 400 miles on my bike for the month of June. I'm training for a century ride in August so I need to lose some weight and put some riding time on my bike. It's summertime and now is the time to be active.

Hi guys,
Got my walk in this morning plus 2 hours of golf tonight. Even had a couple of pars!!!
Debbie
AndreaN
Hi everyone!! This morning I did 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and then had an hour of personal training.
wegastar - welcome!! Of course we don't mind you joining us. We're glad to have you!!
Debbie - congrats on the pars!! Nicely done!
Erika, I have definitely lost weight in my feet, even though I haven't really gone down a size. My shoes fit so much better than they did before - I think because my feet don't swell!
I've always gone with cross-trainers. I have a wide foot with a high arch, so I usually wear Brooks shoes. You might want to check out Road Runner Sports - they have some directions on how to figure out the best shoe for your foot, and then specific choices based on that information.
Debbie T
thanks Andrea,
erika, I'm going to a store that has run on a treadmill with your running shoes on and there's infrared cameras that tells you what is wrong with your sneakers and what your feet need. I bought 2 different pairs of running shoes that felt great in Sports Authority but once I got on the pavement, they killed me.
I'll let you know how I make out. I haven't made an appt yet.
One hour walk this morning.
Debbie
Debbie T
Friday, yea!!!
One hour this morning

Hi everyone!!
Well, I had to miss working out yesterday because I was so sore from my training session on Thursday, plus my department moved to a new floor so I was pretty exhausted after packing files, moving around boxes, etc.
Today I did make it but just couldn't get into my "zone", so I did 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and 15 mins abs and stretching. Luckily I've learned not to push myself - if I'm tired, I'm tired. Tomorrow is another day!
Debbie, that treadmill shoe test sounds really interesting!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Debbie T
Andrea, I just noticed your weight loss, you passed the 80lb mark. Congrats!!!!!!
Debbie
AndreaN
Thanks Debbie!! I simply can't believe it myself!!
LastTime4Me
Hey gang. After several days of slacking off, I managed a 35 minute walk today. Hope you're all having a good weekend!

It was the most perfect weekend of the year. Saturday biked for 20 miles and on Sunday I went with a group of bike riders and we did 30 miles. After the ride my husband and I went to the lake and just enjoyed the nice weather.

Catgrrl
Hey everyone! Glad to see you are all doing excellent! I have dropped the ball in grand style, thank you Andrea for picking up where I horribly left off. Life has been busy, and I'm not winning the battle in my head yet either, so I needed the breather. I'm going away this week on a mini-vacation and am aching to get back into my gym routine. So, that's my plan, after I get home from my mini-road trip I'll probably be joining you fantastic shrinkers again...that is if you'll have me back!
erika3536
Hello!
got to the gym on friday and sunday, and did a bit of walking (tourist-style) on Saturday - but I think i negated all that with saturday's dinner - pasta and cheesecake!
so back to the gym tonight...trying to make it up before tomorrow's WI.
Debbie T
1 hr walk this morning.
Debbie

Hi everyone...I had an hour of personal training today.

I rode my bike 17 miles on Monday and 20 miles on Wednesday. The weather can't be any more perfect than it is this week. Sunshine and 80's with very little wind. Will try to get more miles in this weekend.

Hi everyone. I am new to JC. Now that I have the food portion covered I know it is high time to dust off my gym membership card I know it is nearly mid June so can I still join in for the month?
AndreaN
Absolutely nTravel!! We would love for you to join us!!
nTravel
Thanks for the speedy reply! I've already registered at Yahoo.
Since it is mid-month I'll pledge 12 hours. That should keep me busy
By looking at all of your stats you all are doing something right and looks like I'm in the right place!

Biked 20 miles on Friday and 10 fast miles on Sunday morning. I probably won't make my goal for this month because life is getting busy and I'm running out of time.

Hi everyone. Well, I've been so busy with work and getting ready to leave for vacation on Thursday I haven't made it to the gym since Sunday, but I did walk for an hour today. Hopefully I'll get to the gym tomorrow!

Hi everyone. 2 hours walking. Walked twice today
AndreaN I hope you have a wonderful vacation, you deserve it!!

I went on a group ride last night that ended up being a group ride with just my husband and I. We started out with the group but they took off like someone was chasing them. It was all these macho 20 something guys that can ride about 20 mph. My husband is 50 and I am 47 so we just couldn't keep up with the group. We went the whole 30 miles but only could average 16 mph. I guess that's the last time we try to ride with that group.
