Ok, so I remember this one time when I was working with a personal traininer, I had had a REALLY busy day at work and didnt each much that day. I went straight to gym to workout with my trainer and had to stop and sit down, eat a power bar because I got really nausious and light headed. She told me I needed to eat more (which usually isn't a problem!!).
So, now I am going to a cardio weight class a couple times a week, and I get that feeling about half way through the class -- it freaks me out. I have to stop and walk out of the room for a few minutes to recoup.
I am wondering if the 1200 calories I am eating on workout days isnt enough. Any thoughts? When i first joined, I was sedentary so they put me on the 1200 calorie plan.
I am wondering if I should try a 1500 calorie menu on the days I work out. My husband doesn't think I am right - just says its cuz I am out of shape and to just keep at it and as I get stronger it won't happen.
It's such a horrible feeling!!!

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the shape you are in, more likely it has to do with blood sugars. I suggest you eat a balanced snack or one of JC's meals before you leave to workout and see what happens. Also, carry a snack with you, just in case you do feel that way again. You might also (And this should of been my first suggestion) want to consider seeing a Dr and telling them what is going on, and see what they suggest.

ya, I was planning to ask doctor about it. Especially since my ob/gyn said my recent cholesterol results show it was elevated. Not bad, but something I may want to see an internist about. It runs in my family. Joy! I think this week, I will take an additional snack with me to work to eat on the way to the gym. Bananas used to work for me when I worked out - big dose of potasium. Or maybe some protein.

First, see your doctor about this. As far as what to eat for energy with a workout, a carb is the way to go. Something packed with B vitamins, as they are the energy booster.

Make sure you are drinking enough water when working out also. Dehydration can cause you to feel faint. I know from experience.

In addition to all the great advice above, make sure you aren't just over-doing it at the gym. If you haven't worked out in a while and are a bit out of shape, then you should start off easy and work your way up rather than going 100% from the very beginning. I know when I work out a bit too hard I sometimes feel nauseous or a little light headed.

I don't think it is because you are out of shape or overweight. I just joined a gym yesterday and did the cardio circuit today and had the exact same problem. The trainer told me to make sure I ate before I came and to also drinks lots of water prior to coming and while there......

I need to chime in with my two cents as I am a long time gym rat. I too had the same issues and was given the same advice But also I talked to my JC about it. She ran my activity and stats through the computer and discovered I was not getting enough calories. 1200 cals is basically for a sedentary, no activity type person. I stopped loosing and was feeling awful. We went from 1500 to 1700 and the weight startewd coming off and I lost that awful midworkout slump. My advice talk to your JC and up your calories, be sure to eat before you go and drink lots of water. before, during ands after,
Good luck , Pam

Lillysmom, When I started working out at the gym I had the shakes and it was awful...I put electrolytes into my drinking water(keep hydrated)...I do eat prior to working out...a bag of veggies or a couple of rolled up turkey sliced lunchmeat...I hope this helps...If you hubby is anything like my hubby who thinks he is the food police, I suggest you don't share this information with him...It will just make you feel depressed...Just my thoughts...
Thanks, one-of-a-kind
