Full Version: broken foot?

I have a fractured foot and am going out of my mind because exercising keeps me at an okay stress level. I also want to try to accelerate my weight loss. Does anyone have any ideas of what kinds of things I could be doing at my house (since I can't get to the gym because of my foot)? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your foot! I hope you feel better soon!
I know a broken foot puts the damper on much of cardio! I know it sounds cheezy, but you can "chair dance" by moving to the beat of music while sitting down...at least it will help raise your heart rate.... and you can probably do some floor exercises and stretches too...leg lifts and crunches??
Good luck!!

Thanks for your suggestion! I was thinking of maybe doing some arm work with canned veggies, but I'm worried about getting my arms looking better and having it look funny compared with my legs. What do you think?

Bummer!
So sorry to hear that you are on the injured reserve list, but it is only temporary and there is still so much you can do! Congrats for not letting your injury sideline you!
I had bunion surgery last year and have been kicking myself for not thinking of this back then (when I was thinking I couldn't do any cardio):
Put weights around your ankles, lay on the floor and do leg lifts or go on your hands and knees ("doggy style") and do leg lifts that way. Really challenge yourself!
You have a great idea - this will balance out your upper body work out. Don't forget your abs. You may want to pick up a exercise DVD or two. Watch it first. There will be standing exercises that you can modify using a chair and you can challenge yourself on the floor exercises with ankle weights.
Good Luck and Go Get 'Em!

Forgot to mention (and on who better?),
This will not be money wasted as I have a few DVD's at home as a backup for when I can't make it to the gym (something out of my control comes up). I can still get my exercise in. Also, most of them are broken up into 10 or 15 minute increments, so they are great if you are in a time crunch (who isn't?). Again, I can get my exercise in. Just like you, my stress reliever.

I think your idea and Jackie's ideas are superb!!
***Don't forget that you can also work your muscles simply by tightening them and holding and releasing and repeating...and you can do this all over your body!!

Any more ideas out there? I just came back from my appointment and have a cracked bone in my foot. I had been doing so good on my exercising these past few weeks, I don't want to stop now!
