As I go down this weight loss journey, I also want the muscle definition that I never had even when i was thin. I come from a flat butted family and would like to at least have something there!! Does anyone have any advice for excercises to help that?!

Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight videos -- both the original and the sequel vol. 2 -- have some great exercises. Despite the name of the videos, you don't really need weights to do them until you get to the advanced level. Basically, they are various types of squats, lunges, and leg lifts. But they work really well.

I too have a flat butt. My trainer is having me do lunges, lunges, and more lunges.. and I am seeing results!
I have a long hallway and I go back and forth 5 times once a day doing lunges. I had to be in shape before I could do the lunges, don't want to get stuck down on one knee.

I agree - lunges and squats really hit the muscles in the rear end! The odd thing is that, while you are doing these exercises, you tend to feel it more in your quadriceps (muscle in front of thigh)...for some reason those muscles seem to build up the lactic acid and burn more. So people don't realize what a good workout their buns are getting because they are so aware of their burning thighs!
Another great one that targets more the hip area uses elastic tubing. Put it around your ankles and do side steps back and forth. This is a good complement to those lunges and squats because it hits a slightly different muscle group.
Going up and down stairs or using a stair stepper is great for the butt too...or hiking uphill.
