I'd like to see how many men are on the program and what their weights and goals are. I'd also like to be able to discuss topics about weight loss men are interested in. To start off I'm 52 and am just trying to stay healthy and fit. I was wondering what other guys are doing for exercise. I use my weights and bowflex twice a week, bicycle and swim. How about it guys? Anyone interested in contributing?

Hi, I have been on JC for 4 months and 1 week now. I am 5 10, 34year old male and my starting weight was 224. I am down now to 175.I need to be around 155-160 for my build. I have been around 220-230 since I was 22 years old.
My story goes like this:
My wife just divorced me after 8 years of marriage at the end of 2004. I was in deep depression for two months at the end of 2004.During those two months, I spent most my time feeling sorry for myself about how my life financially and emotionally had collapsed from the divorced.I began to slowly come on that funk in January 2005.I new this was my new life and I had to deal with it. I wanted to get a fresh start.I needed something to fill the void of marriage.I new also I needed to get rid of this weight so that my self confidence would build so I "could try" to meet some one again.I had to make a major life change. I had a high stressful management position and I new I could not tackle this weight problem with my current position.I resigned my position and took a lesser job in the company. Now that I had that in place I went to JC.
I dedicated my life to loss this weight.I began a exercising 6 days week.Jogging/walking and lifting weights on the first week with JC.I am on 1700 cal diet.I just exercise as much as my body could handle. My body was worn out. But I continued on.
Fast forward 4 months and a week.My weekly exercise regime is this:
I jog 5 miles a day (4 times a week.)Its a slow jog but non stop.About 10-11 minutes per mile
I lift weights for 1 hour, all upper workouts, 3 times a week on the days I do not jog. I feel the jogging is enough for the lower body.
So everyday I have some kind work out.I am losing a steady average of 3lbs. a week.I just have 15 lbs to go!
I also have firm up /building muscle.I feel great. Most people that see me would not think I need a diet.Once I get to around 160 I plan on working out 5 days week.
I had many struggles with the diet and did not go into details on that.I could if any male or female once to know. I did many thing to overcome the problems.
My JC center can not believe the change in my entire appearance. When I get to 160 I am going to send my pictures/story to JC for their success section.I can not tell you enough how much better I feel physically and emotionally.I do still have bad days emotionally about the marriage but overall I am a new man.Once I get to 160LBS its almost like a new chapter in life for me (moving onto something else other than weight issues and the divorce.)Sorry if this information was more than anybody wanted to know but I just could not help it.I could not have made without faith in God.I also want to thank my JC counselor in Irving, Texas.
If anyone want to know how I made it as far as the diet program, I would be happy to tell you the details and how I made it work for me.I also would love to help support / encourage anyone threw email.Good luck to all of you!

Dizzy,
Sounds like you've had great success and are very committed to your plan. My weight loss has been slow - about a pound a week, but I only really get to exercise 2 days a week. The other days I'm lucky to get in 15 or 20 min of any kind of workout. This summer I think I'll have more time to swim and bike. Thanks for your input.

My dw and I joined Jenny together. Both of us are way overweight and we had basically decided on two things. The first is that whatever we did, we needed to do it together. It is just too much trouble to keep track of two diet tracks in the same house. Do-able, but can become a real distraction.
The second thing we found out in our studies is that the best success people have found is with a personal chef and personal trainer. Well, TV and Radio personalities can afford those, I guess, but we cannot. So we thought that a "food program" like JC would be best for us. We have been on the program now for four weeks (today was our weigh-in after four full weeks of nothing but JC -- not eating or getting fancy with our own substitutions and meals).
So far my dw has lost right at 20 lbs and I have lost 11.5 lbs. I do a lot of walking (between 5K and 5M every day). We had our first "measure-in" (is that a word?) since beginning and as of this AM my dw has lost 7.5 inches and I have lost 4.5 inches. Of course, part of that is due to the fact that they measure a woman's girth in four places and a man's in only three. But it has been a real encouragement to both of us.
By going on the program together, we have found that our best cheerleading squad lives under the same roof. The food is good -- my wife loves the convenience -- and I do not have the same problem I read of many having. I am never hungry.
That's my story, danb. Or at least that's the "short" of it.

Richard,
Sounds like you and your dw are doing great. My dw is also on a diet, but is doing Atkins. She hasn't done well over the last 1 1/2 years on Atkins, but she does substitute a lot. I've tried to get her to do Jenny Craig but she is still stuck on Atkins. Keep up the good work. It's great to have a live-in team mate to cheer you on.

I'm not doing much in the way of "strength" or "bodybuilding" at all. I have a number of light weights that I use strictly for toning (from 1-8 pound hand weights and from 1-5 pound ankle weights). I use them for the 2 mile "brisk walk" video every other time to make it a "strength walk."
A couple of times a week I use 8 pound dumb bells for triceps, since I haven't figured out any other way to tone them except for that. I also bought a jump rope, but I'm a little afraid of tripping over it. I'm a heart patient, so I'm convinced that jumping rope would be good cardio for me; but I lack the coordination to keep it going for very long.
Mostly I walk. I try to maintain a 126 step per minute pace -- but sometimes that sends my heartrate above my target region, so I slow it down some.
Could use a personal trainer, but haven't the funds. I did join the local community center, so I gave myself some contemplation points!!

I have been on JC since Jan 2005. I started out at 316lbs and to date i have lost 25lbs. I was stricken with a back injury at work and after having to go through surgery decided I needed to lose the weight. This is a decision I have not regretted. I have a great support system in place with my wife and my Consultant has gone out of this world to help me!!! Thanks Miss Holly!!!!She will blush a lot if she sees this!!

Good to see a thread like this started, sometimes i feel like i am the only man on the program. I began the program in april of this year. My start weight was 333 pounds, I am currently at 283. While i still have a long way to go to reach my goal of 200, i'm feeling great. I stick to the diet pretty diligantly and plus i hit the gym where i do an hour and ten minutes of cardio every day. I think one of the biggest motivating factors to me was that i broke it down into numbers one day. I realised that just by following the program i could lose anywhere between 2-3 pounds a week, given a year i would lose over a 100 pounds. The thing about it is, that year was going to pass no matter what, it was up to me to decide am i going to spend it gaining or losing weight. I have been overweight my entire life, it's pretty phenominal if you think about it, i can reverse it all in just one year.

My facts: START WT = 257
PRES WT = 251
GOAL WT = 199
Obviosly, i just started one week ago.
I lost 6 lb this week. Peachy keen!!
By Feb, 2006, I should break 200.
My advice: Keep at it guys!!...reduce your
chance of heart disease, and lower your
cholestoral while you are at it. Cant wait for the day that I can tuck in my shirt without an overweight belly hanging out.
