I'm new. It's actually only my third day but I have a question. I notice how many people seem to loathe the tuna salad kit. I had it tonight and it was edible with the crackers in a catfood is good sorta way. Wondering...The starkist tuna salad kit is actually less calories, less fat and way less sugar. Only thing is, it's higher in sodium, by around 300mg I think. Two of these kits cost me 1.86 at Walmart, and one JC kit is 4.63. Does the higher sodium justify this? It tastes way better. Sorry Jenny. I'm totally loving everything else so far. Turkey chili tonight over a bed of crispy romaine with salsa and ff sour cream. It was fantastic!

I substitute all the time with that. REcently our Acme had them 10 for $10. I personally don't have an issue with sodium and water retention. If I eat something higher in sodium I drink more water to flush out any fluid I may be hanging on to.

Thanks for the reply. I also noticed the the gram weight on the jc tuna is twice as much as the starkist, but that must be including the fruit that comes with it also because the tuna can is the same size. If taht's the case, then maybe the calorie and other levels are a bit differnt, but hey, I don't eat the fruit cup anyway. Thanks again.

Bumble Bee has two that are very good
They are called Bumble Bee Sensations
Lemon & Pepper and Sundried Tomato and Basil
I have tried them both, but like the Lemon Pepper on the best.....and they are easy to open.....

I looked for these today at the grocery store and couldn't find them. Starkist had two (they were out of the chunk white) but the chunk lite had something like 12g of fat? and there was a BumbleBee one that was really small and had virtually no fat at all but it also only had 70 calories total! Another kit there had something like 19g of fat!! I guess I'm not seeing the one you guys are seeing. For now I'll stick with my JC tuna salad kits, I actually think they're pretty tasty.

OK, so I agree the tuna & chicken JC kits aren't really great tasting. I never even thought of subbing until this thread. In my research, BumbleBee Tuna & Chicken come closest to JC's. Here's the breakdown:
BB Fat Free Tuna Salad w/Crackers
150 Calories (120 less than JC)
1.5g Fat (same)
20mg Chol. (5mg more than JC)
760mg Sodium (280 more than JC)
24g Carbs (15 less than JC)
1 Fiber (1 less than JC)
7 Sugars (15 less than JC)
9 Protein (2 less than JC)
BB Chicken Salad Kit w/Crackers
230 Calories (30 less than JC)
12.5 Fat (3.5 more than JC)
25 Cholesterol (same)
590 Sodium (250 more than JC)
22 Carbs (11 less than JC)
0 Fiber (2 less than JC)
7 Sugars (9 less than JC)
10 Protein (1 less than JC)
The JC kit also includes peaches which will increase the amounts. I personally will try the BB brand & drink more water to accomodate the increased sodium.
Thanks for making me think!!

Breakdown for Starkist Chunk Light Lunch to go:

Sodium 550 mg (70 more than JC)
Carbs 20 g (19 less than JC)

Of course, there's no fruit in the Starkist one, but personally I'd rather have the extra protein.

Starkist has 2 salad kits - one is the light and the other is fat free.
I stocked up on the FF when I saw them on sale at one of my local stores and I add my own fruit cup.

I do the same thing....the tuna and chicken salad I really do not care for them at JC because they have onions.....
Now the soups are way to expensive and to be honest has very little taste.....
