Jenny Craig > Food and Dining Out > Favorite Foods
tippiejax
I am just starting out, and I especially love reading the feedback on the food. I realize that there are different strokes for folks, but if you would be so kind to list your top 5 or so favorites, as well as your bottom 5, I would appreciate it. It is nice to be armed with "taste" opinions going forward. Also, which items tend to cost the most? I look forward to your posts!
racegirl
Top 5:
Mac & Cheese
Cheesy Enchilada
Blueberry muffin
French toast (I top with sugar free preserves)
Double chocolate cake and raspberry swirl cheesecake
Bottom 5:
Chicken parm pasta
Turkey chili
Pasta ole
Spinach Cheese Tortellini
Penne pasta
Ask your centre for a list of the prices. They won't mind (or should not), and you have the right to know. The frozen lunches and dinners cost the most. French toast is the most expensive breakfast while turkey jerky is the most expensive snack. Mesquite chicken is the highest priced lunch. There are many dinner items that are priced at $5.99, which is the most expensive. If you look at the planning your menu section of the website, you will see foods marked T for budget/travel. They are the least expensive foods and do not require refridgeration. Frozen foods are usually the highest.
I hope this helps!

Thanks and much fun reading the different tastes! Alf, good advice. I do plan on trying them all. . .them we'll see. I'm not a big sweets person, but have a feeling that all the starchy cheesy stuff will be my #1s!

This is a little bit different than your request for best/worst 5... but I had already recorded my impressions of the foods over a period of time so I'm just doing a copy/paste here, hope you don't mind!
Sunshine Sandwich - like the sandwich but not the ranchero sauce. better with the JC Rosemary sauce.
Tuna Salad Kit - great for traveling.
Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake - love it!
Multi-grain Cereal - good with banana
Swedish Meatballs - good with a little fatfree yogurt stirred in
Turkey Chili - smells good, tastes good
Toffee Bites - Great snack!
Honey Oat Bar - a bit dry, but not bad
Spinach & Cheese Tortellini - much better with fat-free mozarella added
Lentils with Beef - good
Trail Mix - like it, surprised to find "chocolate" (probably carob) bits
Fruit & Granola - good!
Pasta Ole - great with a lot of salsa!
Beef with Mashed Potatoes - good take-along for trips
Lemon Cake - great!
French Toast - like it, but not as much as the pancakes
Hearty Beef & Vegetables - great stew for lunch!
Spinach Salad (from JC Cookbook) - this was almost like having dessert!
Traditional Lasagna - great with a side of spinach! I actually mixed it up together.
Savory Soy Snack Mix - pretty good but dry and takes a long time to eat
Complete Start Cereal - great with kiwi fruit (or any other fruit, or yogurt)
Cheesy Enchilada - great with salsa!
Beef Sirloin Rice Bowl - sounds Asian but it's Barbecue - good though!
Double Chocolate Cake - great for chocaholics!
Banana Nut Muffin - great!
Beef Chow Mein with 6 cashews - great!
Fish & Chips - great, one of my favorite dinners, wish there were more fish meals
Cheese Curls - good snack!
Blueberry Muffin - great!
Homestyle Chicken with Noodles - good
Salisbury Steak - great!
Almond Walnut Snack Mix - great, I was surprised at the sweetness
7-Grain Hot Cereal - message board was right, there is an odd aftertaste, probably from the nuts. But I followed the recommendations, stirred well, used the low amount of water (3/4 cup), added a banana and some sweetener, and it wasn't too bad. Still didn't taste like oatmeal. I will probably have it again, though.
Rotini with Meatballs and Sauce - Pretty good, not frozen so it's easier to pack for a trip.
Vegetable & Chicken Potstickers - Great! Probably one of the best dinners in my opinion, the side dish is good, and I added brocolli/cauliflower into the mixture with lite soy and lime juice. Yummy!
Strawberry bar - really dry, but it's not bad with milk
Bean with Ham & Bacon Soup - really good lunch, especially now that the weather is cooling off!
Macaroni & Cheese - it tastes like Mama's! Don't like the veggies that come with it though
Chocolate Chip Snack Bar - Wonderful! It's a cross between a cereal bar and chocolate, I might even like this more than the Peanut Butter Anytime Bar :-)
Silver Dollar Pancakes with Lite JC Syrup - Great! but the veggie sausage doesn't add anything (acquiring a taste for this)
Stuffed Shells - Great! the veggies aren't too bad as long as you get them in the sauce
Meatloaf with BBQ Sauce - Great! Need to add veggies, the ones in the box aren't exciting
Triple Grain Crisps - Great!
Chicken Stuffed Sandwich - Good, the last bite is a bit tough and dry
Florentine Ravioli - Great!
Lemon Cake - Great!
Breakfast Stuffed Sandwich - Great!
Chile con Carne with Beans - Great!
Jenny's Rising Crust Pizza - of all the pizzas, my favorite (cook in oven)
Peanut Butter Bar - Great!
Banana Nut Muffin - Great!
Chicken Salad Kit - Great!
Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake - Great!
Broccoli & Cheese Stuffed Potato with Tomato Rosemary Sauce and chopped black olives - Yummy!
Chicken Fettucine topped with 1/2 oz lowfat cheese
Fresh veggie sticks with JC Tangerine Mint Dressing sauce mixed with nonfat plain yogurt - Good stuff!
Breakfast Stuffed Sandwich with JC Tomato Rosemary Sauce - really good!
Tried the Turkey Jerky snack. It wasn't awful, but it took a long time to eat and was more spicy than I particularly care for in a midnight snack! Probably won't buy this one again.

I absolutely agree with Alf... if you don't like it the first time you try it, wait a month or two and try it again. I didn't like the sunshine sandwich or the stuffed shells the first time I tried them, but after trying them again, they're foods that I order regularly!
My Favorites:

My least favorites:
-Creamy Potato soup
-Pasta Fagioli
-breakfast stuffed sandwich

It's funny to see other people's opinions, and notice how different they are, though, isn't it? It's a good reason why you should try everything before deciding that you don't like it... (the only thing I haven't tried is the tuna salad kit, but that's because I don't like tuna, so I know I won't like it...)

It is so interesting to read what everyone else thinks of the food!!! One thing that I noticed is that many of the posts said they didn't like the potato soup -- but I love it!!! Especially on a cold day, it is warm and filling!
I LOVE the complete start cereal....I think that I will have to keep getting it even after I reach my goal!

Beef & mashed potatoes
Pasta Fagioli
Potstickers

BBQ Pita Puffs
Raspberry Cheescake
Any of the new nut mixes (haven't tried the jerky, don't like jerky)
WildwoodDaze
The only food that I tried that I didn't like, was the raspberry cheesecake. Cheesecake is my favorite treat, so I didn't find the JC one compared at all to "real" cheesecake. The chocolate cake is delish though!
I've liked all the food, so far. I'm not a picky eater and there really isn't much I don't like :}

I've only been on for 1-1/2 weeks but here are my likes/dislikes so far:
LIKES:
Turkey Burger
Lentils
Chicken fajitas
Peanut Butter Bar (I freeze it)
Complete Start Cereal
DISLIKES:
Sweet & Sour Chicken (blech!)
Sunshine Sandwich (double-blech!)
Pancakes & Sausage
Polly Unsaturated
Favorites:
* Fajitas!
* Sirloin rice bowl
* Potstickers
* Fruit and granola (I eat with orange flavored Craisins for my fruit mixed in)
* Lemon cake (yummy!)
* Trail mix
* Chocolate cake
* Macaroni and cheese
Bleghs:
* Chicken pasta parmesan (blech blech blech!)
* Pasta fagioli
* Island chicken (seriously nasty)
* Chicken salad kit
* Turkey jerky
* Sunshine sandwich (better w/a slice of ff cheese, but still kind of gross)
There are still a few things I haven't tried yet, but most of the non-perishables REALLY don't do it for me.
I need to begin experimenting with the new sauces to liven things up, but I'm only in my second month or so, so I really still enjoy my favorites. I've been doing plenty of meals on my own already, and have been doing great, so I guess I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I'm actually ready to post my "so fars"
Likes:
-Mac and CHEESE (always da bomb, since I was 3!!!I could eat it every night, cuz that's just the kind of cheezy starch freak I am! )
-Chicken stuffed sandwich (I really dig this...perhaps too much. If I had another on hand, I'd probably binge on the suckers)
-Chicken Fettuccini (see starch and CHEESE comment above )
-Beef Chow Mein (this was quite yummified and filling; great lunch!)
-Potstickers (pretty darned tasty, esp. with an extra side of stir fried veggies with; fat free oil spray and some soy)
OK:
-Turkey meal (filling, starchy, comforting)
-Cheesy Enchilada (this almost made my top 5. . .very groovy with salsa and a dollup of FF sour cream)
-Salisbury Steak (see "turkey" comments)
-lemon cake (actually quite good. . .I'm just not a sweet tooth gal)
-toffee bites (actually, these are mmmm mmm good! My favorite "sweetie" so far)
Pretty harsh: (yes, that means,kinda yucky):
-Chicken Pasta Parmesean (oooo, bleh! How can you ***** up the taste of tomato sauce????. . .this scared me!)
-Tuna kit ( almost 4 bucks for a pasty concoction of flaked fish and coagulents disguised as light mayo? Gag me. And I love tuna!)
-Veggie Burger (and I LOVE veggie burgers: Boca, Nature Burger etc. This one tasted like a veggie phobic made it. . .like fake Bambi)
-Mesquite Chicken (the only whole breast meal and it's like powdered leather. . .what's the point?)
That's about all that I despised. I can safely say that any of the shelf stable meals went the way of bye-bye for me. Onlt exception: the chile con carne, because it's great as a taco salad!

Did you guys see the new choices that are coming out?
They had a little sign up in my Centre (Plano, TX). I'm trying to remember them all.
One was sort of a Santa Fe Rice and Beans type thing. The other was a Thai Chicken (looks like a lemongrass flavored thing)...and the third...gah. I can't remember.
I want to say it's another chicken entree, but I can't be sure.

I like the french toast & pancakes... but unfortunately, they are the 2 meals that leave me feeling like I want more... I have them on the weekends, but i still feel like I'm missing out on brunch.

About the "new foods" I caught this on another post:
FYI- in case you didn't get a chance to spot it, someone asked the dietician about the new foods coming out in February.
Here was the response:

Have any of you been on JC long enough to remeber the breakfast scramble? Or the cheese omlet? SOOOO GOOOOD! I noticed no new breakfast on the foods for Febuary hope to see some in May. I have been doing Jenny Food for over a year (87lbs lost) I have 20 to go. We all have our likes and dislikes. The bottom line: loose the weight, look great and deal with the foods you like the most.Modifiy some of the foods to get varity ie: toast the honey oat bar and add sugar free preserves. Toast the strawberry bar and add f/f cream cheese put the french toast in the toaster. Bake the turkey and gravy in the oven as well as the fish and chips and most important: USE A PLATE, DO NOT EAT OUT OF THE CARTON!! You would be amazed how different it is to see your food on a plate. This helps with understanding the portion size as well. Get the creative cooking with cheff Neff at your centre. Use the marinades and dressings to jazz up your foods.In closing, my favs are as follows:
fruit and granola mixed with yourt mmmmm
sunshine sandwich (say that 5x's fast)
7 grain hot made creamy with fat free half and half and slenda
turkey burger with all the veggie fixins as well as spicey mustard
pesto pizza add more tomato
rising crust and I add fresh mushrooms and tomato,and peppers then I sprinkle grated parm cheese (remember your exchanges when modifing these recipes)
mac and cheese
salisberry steak
I do agree with most of the comments about the travle foods they tend to have the least amount of flavor and most of them smell weird when you cook them the soups are o.k.
hope this helps some of you.
nchuark
This is only my second week, so i still have not yet had a chance to try everything (there is so much). But, so far, here is my opinion of the best/worst.
Favorites:
Rising Crust Pizza (cooks in oven)
Chocolate/Carrot Cake
Penne Pasta
Lasagna
Triple Grain Crisps
Dislikes:
Beef with Mashed Potatoes
Honey Oat Bar (dry -- fruit in it adds weird texture...hrm..)
Sourdough Bites (very bland)
Chicken Sandwich
So, as I said, I am still pretty new so I haven't found a lot to hate/love just yet. I am excited about the new options coming our way in February.
Good luck to all!
miamore
This is just my first week so I don't haven't made my decisions yet. But I can definately say these sourdough bites suck.
Could they be any thicker maybe they could be a little drier. gasp water please
Taters
miamore..just an fyi..the sourdough bites are only good when you can crumble them up a bit and throw them into your chili! with a slice of ff cheese melted on top..to eat them plain is definatley dry. Terri
Big Girl w/Small Dreams
Hey, little did you know that this string would go on and on, so I'm adding my two cents: Fourth week on program and happy as a clam.
Faves:
Swedish Meatballs - I'm a pasta freak.
Double Chocolat/Carrot Cake -Dude,it's cake
Meatloaf Dinner - Hearty
Turkey Burger - Very Tasty
Popcorn - Makes me feel normal when I go to the movies with my friends
French Toast - Feel like I'm queen for a day, I have sliced banana and a cup of yogurt with it.

Not So Greats/I eat them but I don't love them:
Sunshine sandwich
Seven Grain Hot Cereal
Penne Pasta
Ravioli
Pralines Anytime Bar (puke city)
tippiejax
I love that this post has gone on and on. It's fun and funny and so interesting to see how different we can all be regarding taste.
An update from me (just a few random likes and dilikes of recent):
LIKED:
-The Ravioli and the shells. Really the only pasta I have liked so far, but haven't tasted the Penne yet.
-The rising crust pizza was pretty dag-burned yummified, esp. with extra mushrooms and a couple of sliced black olives.
-Meatloaf. Pretty good.
-Turkey burger: best of the bun bunch.
No LIKEY:
-Lasagna: what was up with that? Someone really went loco with that weird sauce
-Carrot Cake: WAY too sweet and gummy. Didn't even finish it. I like the lemon best.
Nothing else flipped my skirt (of the recent foods I've tried. I have another review of my faves on the first page).
