Is anyone else on the 1700 calorie diet? If so, what do you use for Turkey Sandwhich instead of Turkey Sandwhich. I wonder if I could do cheese and crackers, or maybe cheese stick (like string cheese) and whole wheat crackers.
Any suggestions would be superb. Thanks guys. MySTiE

Essentialy any protein / starch combination can work. One thing I would do is make a grilled cheese sanwich with low fat cheese and low carb bread.
Since it's been a while for me, how much each of Bread / turkey do they say to use?

Deej,
I'm not sure I hate to sound so stupid, but I know it's like 1/2 turkey sandwhich is the afternoon snack between lunch and dinner. It's protein and starch, but it's like 1 piece of bread that I use, and maybe like 2 oz lean turkey.
I just want something diff to change it up. Help!

A half turkey sandwich would then be 1 Starch and 1 Meat. By using 2 OZ of turkey you are over by one meat exchange
So here's a couple of ideas:
4 Low Fat Crackers and 1 OZ of low fat cheese
1/4 cup Cottage cheese & 2 Rice Cakes
1 Starch exchange is 15 G of carbs. I find most Quaker Rice Cakes fit into this quite nicely
And don't you dare feel stupid YOu are just starting so you really haven't gone heavily into the exchange system yet. I found it daunting at first now I can do it automatically. It all comes in time

I swap my 1/2 sandwich for chips and salsa with one LF cheese. yum.

And caligirl, by asking questions you may be helping someone else out. Never feel stupid.

I have cheese and crackers. There are these crackers by Kashi called "TLC" (for tasty little cracker-isn't that cute) and I buy these pre-sliced cheese slices by Kraft made especially for crackers. They are full fat but each slice is 40 calories and you don't have to wonder if your eating too much (I have a major problem with portion control). I also have a slice of wheat bread with a scraping of peanut butter and a tiny bit of grape jelly (I really miss PB&J).

You guys rule! I was supposed to go see Vanessa on Monday but unfortunately she wasn't in, I just ran in and weighed, but was planning on talking to her about this more in depth next week.
In the meantime this gives me some ideas. Today I packed a turkey sandwhich....about 2 oz of turkey in a 1/2 pita. No spread (forgot).
Do you guys notice it takes a ton of work to make your food the night before But that way it's a no brainer
