Bad Weigh- In

Hi Everyone, Wendy from Canberra here.
Had my weigh in yesterday. I put on 0.4kgs. Bit of a bummer. I am soooo close to getting to my first mini goal of losing 10kgs that it's not funny. All I had to do last week was lose 0.9kgs, but instead I put on 0.4kgs. Now this week I've put pressure on myself that I have to lose 1.3kgs to get to my goal. I've been on JC before, and other weight loss programs, but I've never reached any of the goals I've set myself. My motivation seems to be lagging a bit, and I don't know how to get it back. Any suggestions????

Sounds like you need to focus on what you CAN control. Weight loss can be a guideline of success, but it isn't everything! Often, small gains or slow losses have a reason - whether it's water or gaining muscle.
So start making a realistic plan of what you want to do each week for exercise. Focus on being realistic and plan ahead. If you have some sort of exercise planned each day at a certain time, place, etc. - you'll be more apt to "keep the appointment" than just whenever you get around to it.
And remember that realistic losses can seem slow. And keep them in perspective. Imaging losing 10lbs. in 2 months (about 1lb/week) -- seems slow, doesn't it? Now imagine gaining those same 10lbs. in 2 months. Now why can't we feel that same level of emotion when we lose the same amount? You'd think we'd be excited to lose half that! But we're very good at modifying our own reality.
For example, when I mentioned how many size I went down to my husband - he was really impressed. And I realized that although I was happy, my reactions were muted. Which is what I've done a lot of my life - losing even 10lbs. in a year is fantastic and is world's better than an average American. Yet people on the board, myself included, can make themselves feel bad - really bad - over losing what seems like a small amount. But is actually a lot.
So take some time and go over what you want - make a plan and set up rewards for yourself. Even try to set up something to see each day - maybe a calendar that you can check off the days for a month and just concentrate then. Don't worry about sny more than the month ahead. And just make the best choices for yourself. You aren't perfect, and neither is your weight loss - but it means more when you can commit to yourself and your own happiness. Good luck!

Hi Wendy,
I set goals for myself too but I always set it a bit higher than what I really want. Since you mention never having reached any of your goals perhaps you need to set it a bit higher. Once you reach a certain plateau it can be difficult to go lower. Perhaps a few extra pounds is your realistic weight?

Wendy...Please don't give up on your goals. I know it easier to give advice than to live by that advice, but here goes. If you get discouraged and quit, then you will undoubtedly put yourself farther from your goals. Hold your head high and be proud of what you have achieved and remember what you did to get this far. Now get back out there and give it all you have and remember tomorrow is a new day and you may not be able to control last weeks results, but you can control next weeks. Continue to give it your all and good luck. Now I think I will print this advice and pin it to my refigerator door. You go girl! Allie

Hi Everyone
Wendy from Canberra here.
I'm pleased to say that at my weigh-in today I managed to lose 1.2kgs. I am very happy with myself. I was very down last week, but I made myself go to the gym 4 times (only 30mins each time) and it looks like it paid off. I'm lucky that I have such a great consultant. She actually phoned me to make sure I went to the gym. This was the sort of encouragement I needed and it worked. My total loss to date is 9.9kgs, but I'm going to call it an even 10kgs. This means that I've finally made it to my first goal. My next goal is 85kgs, then I move onto a lower kilojoule intake and go on to the 5/2 food days.
Here's hoping that it works out.

Lucky girl! I'm trying to get into the 230's by my next weigh. It was very hard not to have a loss this week.
