Beef barley stew, kicked up |

I really like the beef barley stew. It reminds me a lot of Dinty Moore beef stew which I had a lot as a kid. Sooo -- I do the same thing to the JC stew that we used to do to the DM: stir in a tbsp of mustard. Sounds strange, but it really gives it an extra tang. Also, on the days that I have this, I try to save a half a starch and a fat so that I can have a slice of diet toast with lite margarine w the stew. The stew is very soupy, and this gives me a way to "sop up" all that tangy broth.
