I'M ABOUT TO GET BUGGED!!!!! And I can't wait! Ordered BB late Sunday night and should get it tomorrow.
Although I'm doing OK with JC alone, I want to STEP IT UP a notch, and the BB should help me stay better on track!!

Can't wait to report back to this thread next week!

Congratulations. Be prepared for a real eye-opener! When I first got mine, I was surprised to find that some activities burned a lot more calories than I thought they did, and they weren't the ones I thought they were!

For instance, I burn way more calories walking my dogs in our hilly park than I do working out on the treadmill or on the exercise bike, and walking the dogs is a lot more fun.

The bodybugg has definitely helped me with my weight loss. I am down 2.1 in the first week. I do personalized menus, so the tracking system really helps me determine which combinations of JC food will give me less wiggle room with limited frees.

Well, I am VERY bugged, and not in a good way. I received my bodybugg on Nov 4 and started using it on Nov 5. By Nov 8, my computer was no longer able to detect my bodybugg when I plugged it in. I thought perhaps there was something wrong with my laptop so I attempted to use my husband's laptop but same problem. It hast taken me an average of 30 minutes of unplugging and re-plugging my bodybugg into my computer to be able to get a detection. Further, when the bodybugg ran out of power, I charged it overnight, twice, and it wouldn't get a full charge. Instead, it held about 2/3 of the charge. I wore my bodybugg, it continued to collect information (which I knew because my display was showing the information) but when I tried to upload the information again, it was as if it had never been on my body. I have spoken TWICE to bodybugg support and they keep on giving me the run around. Finding the phone number to exchange the equipment was a pain, the number listed on the website is incorrect. The have asked me to call back a third time because they want to figure out what is wrong with my equipment, but I just want to replace it. At this point, I am furious. If I do not get my issue resolved today, I'm returning it. HORRIBLE customer service, I am SO disappointed.

I'm sorry to hear you are having such a frustrating experience!

I've never had to exchange anything, but every other experience I have had with the company has been very nice.

Putting on my tech support hat here, from the description, it sounds like it is more likely to be a communication problem between the two devices than a problem with the bugg itself, or with the computer. Ruling out the computer software, there are three likely sources for a communication error:

1. The port on the computer
2. The connector on the device
3. The cable

Since the problem has occurred with two different computers, it is more likely to be the connector on the device, or the cable. Take your laptop and the cable to your local computer store and ask if they have a replacement cable in stock, or if their repair dept. has one you can use to do a quick check. If you have a bad cable, problem solved. If not, you will already have done the necessary troubleshooting, and will have a solid case for returning the unit.

I'm sorry they weren't more helpful. Did you call the tech support number? If so, they really should be more familiar with basic troubleshooting than that, and their manager needs to be informed that they have a training issue to resolve.

Thanks for the advice --

My bodybugg quit collecting data over the weekend, too. I called customer service back again last night, and they had me do a number of things, and finally they had me reset the software but it still did not collect data. At this point, it will not even turn on. They wouldn't authorize an exchange yesterday, but they're calling me back tomorrow. Hopefully at that point they'll offer an exchange. This is ridiculous.

I will say, the people I have spoken with were nice, but the company policies are frustrating.

i've worn my bugg for a couple of weeks so far, and the amount of calories it says I'm consuming based on measurements is 317. Am I missing something or I think maybe every body is different and 3500 calorie deficit to lose one pound is perhaps an average?

There's no way i'm consuming that few calories, so I don't get it.

Interesting thing too, I went back and read my goal in it's entirety. In order for me to reach the desired "weight" I "wanted" to be, I would be at 14% body fat.

.......

That's the body fat of an athlete for a woman isn't it? I redid a plan to get to 20% and that put me at 165 instead of 150. I didn't think in terms of body fat, only weight, when I set my first goal. Interesting little device, indeed.

Two things: About the malfunctioning bugg—have you tried a new cable? I am more and more convinced that you have a bad cable.

About the 317 calories—you log the food you are eating, not the bugg. If you are not going into the calories consumed area to log it, the only thing it can do is give you an estimate based on the small amount of info you are giving it.

Zexxii,

How much weight did you lose for that measurement period? It appears that you must have lost alot of weight. What was your calorie consumption based on food log?

Calorie consumption based on food log is 1062. (yes, i know, it should be 1200).

According to my bodybugg coaching seesion, the bug's "based on measurements" does it's own calculations based on how much you've lost and how many calories you've burned, so, there's definitely a hard-coded calculation there, but it's just silly.

It seems it's taking the calories burned as fact, so anything I logged that I ate must be wrong according to it. I dunno, this is evidence that 3500 is a guideline, not fact.

My body fat % is going down as well, so this isn't (only, just, insert word here) muscle loss. (No, I'm not getting dunked in water to determine most accurately my body fat)

During that period I lost 3 pounds (ish).

It is very easy for calorie estimates to be off. Just because something says it is 290 calories isn't necessarily so. There are so many variances in metabolism and calorie counts that it is never going to come out to an exact amount of this equals that.

You have a pretty accurate measure of calories expended from the bugg, but there's all kinds of reeom for variation in calorie counts. Take Lean Cuisine, for example. The actual calories in the package rarely match the amopunt stated on the outside of the package. The reason for this is FDA guidelines that allow for a rather large margin of error (75-150 calories per entree); the fact that the nutrition information is never checked by the FDA for accuracy, so the inductry self-polices; and due to the fact that we always feem to thing that larger is better value, a reluctance to make the contents look skimpy.

If you look at the exchange guidelines, you will see that the servings give a range of calories, not an exact measure.

Most people underestimate calories eaten, and over-estimate calories burned. Timing of food and exercise can also play a part in how much stored fat is burned. And because we are women, there will always be water weight fluctuations that can skew the whole thing.

That's why it can pay to use the sophisticated tools in the BB software, and body fat measurements, to see if you are losing or gaining muscle. TOM, sore muscles, alcohol or sodium consumption--all can skew the results.

I totally agree with EllenWheels on all points. Sounds like a USB cable problem on the malfunctioning bugg. You might see if you have a USB cable from a digital camera; I've heard some say that has worked for them. It if is the issue, definitely get a different USB cable from the manufacturer.

Also, she's right-on with the low calorie consumption, Zexxi. The calories on packaging is almost always underestimated, plus you want to be sure you enter your own caloric consumption for each meal and snack. Doesn't take nearly as long as I had originally thought but soooo much more accurate.

The calories burned always amazes me. For example, I burned more calories per minute unloading cases of paper today than I do on the TM. I've been bugged now for about a month and am loving it. Only take it off to shower and charge up. Haven't purchased the digital display part but so far have been happy doing a couple uploads a day. Keep buggin' gals!

I find it hard to believe I'm only consuming 310 calories a day on average.

Well, it was definitely not a USB problem. The bodybugg quit recording data, and then quit functioning at all. Tech support was a little baffled. They're sending me a replacement. Total bummer. I can't wait to get started again! smile.gif
