Hi there! I am new to Jenny, and just completed my first week! I know that we are allowed free foods I was just looking in my fridge for some fruit and forgot I had apple sauce... I didn't know if that counted, or was allowed! Does anyone know?

Thankssss!

Free foods are things like non-starchy veggies or items with very low calories and high water content (small portion of melons for example).

A fruit exchange is approximately 60 calories. Applesauce is considered a fruit. Generally unsweetened applesauce is recommended to keep the calorie count lower. Some of the extra flavored varieties can have up to 150 calories in the same little snack cup size. Check the label on what you have. If you don't have any other fruit, it would be fine, just watch the serving size to keep it around the 60 calorie range.

I also read your post to the dietician regarding pudding. Generally, sugar free fat free pudding is still considered a starch, not a milk. The calcium and protein contents are not high enough to be considered a milk.

Hello,

The free foods that you can eat are non-starchy vegetables, not fruit.

I am new too, but on the planned menu. Are you using planned menus? If yes, turn one over and read the back. It has some answers to my questions and might have answers to yours too.

Good luck on your new journey.

Connie
