Hi,
I went to sign up today and they told me that if I would have called they would have told me not to waste my time driving down because the plan won't work for vegetarians. I told them that I have been on their site and there was a specific site for Veggies and that it seemed like it would work for a Veggie since they have a specific forum for it. She called in someone else and said that it would work but they had to do a personalized menu for me. So I am a bit confused and a little worried about starting up... especially with conflicting information. I see that there isn't a ton of choices but I need this to work. You know. And I don't want to chose this on their speculation that it might work.

I did not sign up today. They gave me the menu plan and the planner to look things over. I don't understand the end of it where on the back it says "Meal on my Own" says you have to eat 1 mean, 2 starches,1 fat and 1 milk" is this beyond my understanding right now or do I have to work that into the veggie plan or is that for eating out at a restaurant?

I was thinking about doing the 36 dollar 6 weeks deal to see how things would go. It is a small office and people seem friendly but I also know they want my money. I want to make sure it is a fit. I really want to do this and I really want this to work. I don't need to get disappointed in the end.

Advise please!!!! You can also email me at pasandy@aol.com

They used to have a preplanned menu for vegetarians and they do not offer than any longer. There have been a few vegetarian options that have been discontinued recently. It is getting harder and harder to have a wide variety of vegetarian foods, but it is NOT impossible! Anyone can chose a personalized menu at any time. They do not care which foods you chose, so you can chose all of the vegetarian ones. I would encourage you to chose as wide a variety of foods as possible, even if you're not totally crazy about some of them.

The foods are high quality and quite tasty. Several include soy-meat products instead of meat.

MOMO refers to an occasional meal on your own. Those guidelines are for when you need to go off program (or just want to). It's something that your consultant would help you plan for. When it lists "meat" it simply means a serving of protein. It could easily be a vegetarian substitute.

Talk with the center director again and see if she has any consultant that knows anything about vegetarianism. If not, the next best choice is someone that is at least not negative about it! You're just doing a personalized menu and you can be as successful as anyone else chosing any other foods. I would be concerned about a consultant that doesn't seem to want to help in any way. But people are people and often respond out of fear. If she has never encountered a vegetarian, she may have her own misinformed ideas about what it really entails.

Best of everything to you in your journey. Whatever you decide, you can always continue to come here for support along the way.

PA -- I'm a vegetarian and have been on JC for 8 weeks. In that time I've lost 20 lbs.

They don't have pre-planned menus for veggies so all you have to do is choose the meals yourself. The ones with a 'M' are meatless. If you eat fish, there are also fish dishes.

The food is not vegan friendly, however, it will certainly work for vegetarians.

Good Luck and don't let one uniformed person stop you from joining. You'll be glad you did.

First of all, let me say vegetarians rule! Second of all, ask to speak to someone else! I am eating only the meals with a carrot beside it. Do not accept a meal plan with meat NMW.

The ones with a 'M' are meatless.

I'm pretty sure the "M" (on my pricing sheet, at least) means "modular," whatever that means. But, yes, there are a number of vegetarian options available. On the Personalized Menu Planner, they are denoted by a carrot stick symbol, as catperson said above. Just to give you an idea, some of the vegetarian options are:

For Breakfast:
Banana Nut Muffin
Blueberry Muffin
French Toast
Silver Dollar Pancakes & Veggie Sausage
Banana Nut Cereal
Cranberry Almond Cereal
....and several more, in fact most of the breakfast options are vegetarian.

For Snacks:
Brushetta Veggie Chips
Chocolate Walnut Brownie
Jenny's Cheese Curls
Triple Chocolate Cheesecake
...and several more. I think there are only a couple snacks that aren't veg.

For Lunch:
Broccoli & Cheese Stuffed Potato
Cheesy Enchilada
Cheese Pizza
Pesto Pizza
Creamy Potato Soup
Garden Vegetable Soup

For Dinner:
Rising Crust Pizza
Mac & Cheese
Penne Pasta
Lasagna
Pasta Fagioli
...and a couple more

Just pick 7 of each category from the vegetarian options, and you're good to go! I'm not a strict vegetarian, but I do try to keep to many of the meatless items for the most part, and they're good!

Best of Luck!!!

-Stephanie

It can be done, but after a couple of months it gets really boring....
I supplement with additions like Nate's meatless meatballs to the penne pasta or morningstar chicken or steak strips to the pizza (w/ bbq sauce).
And lots of Chipotle Tabasco on everything.
Good Luck

I met with a counselor in NYC who is a vegetarian and lost 100lbs on JC -- and kept it off for four years! I am just finishing my first week and, while there were just enough meal options to fill out my plan, I am sure it is going to be boring by the third week or so. Thanks for the tips on mixing things up!

Hi there! I just joined JC and will get my food on Tuesday! I had no problem signing up with veggie options. I just wished that there was some more variety. I think that it would be a good thing to add more meatless options - it's good for meateaters, too! Soy won't kill them as they probably believe! hehe. I hope that I enjoy the food. I have heard it's light years about Nutrisystem. smile.gif
