hi
i just needed an ear...
well, i have lost 13 pounds so far in 12 weeks. this is 5 pounds from my goal weight!! so i feel like i'm learning what i need to learn. i'm a little bummed out that no one has noticed, except my daughter and my mom, or commented even though some people know i'm doing jc. yes, i know that 13 pounds is not a lot of weight, but for me it's enough to make a difference, at least I think so! Did I lose weight so others would notice? No, I did it for me, but i guess i'm surprised that my friends haven't said anything at all about my progress, or even asked how i'm doing.
do others of us have that reaction - or no reaction - from others around you? or do they support you and say something when they notice a change? or is 13 pounds not enough for anyone to really noticce?

I'm betting people HAVE noticed - they just haven't said anything. That happens a lot. It's almost like people are sometimes afraid to say something like "Wow you really look great - did you lose weight?" Sort of translates to them as "You used to be a big of a porker and now you look much better. What did you do?" So people just keep quiet.
Same thing goes for pregnant women at first. People wait till they are CERTAIN that the woman is actually pregnant and hasn't just put on some weight.
Don't worry. YOU notice and after all that's who you did this for - not the rest of them.
Congrats on the loss. To be 5 lb. from goal must feel great!

Congratulations on your loss. I bet you look great!
I think it is definitely true that most people are afraid to comment about weight loss. If they say something then it implies that they thought you needed to lose weight in the 1st place. Don't feel bad - you are just lucky to have a lot of polite people in your life!
One thing you may want to try is buying smaller clothes if you haven't already. I have been getting a lot more compliments since I replaced my baggy, ill-fitting old clothes with things in my new size.
Good luck getting to your goal!

Hey, I could have written this..we've lost the same amount of weight.
I met with two friends I haven't seen in about 5 months..one turns to the other and says "have you lost weight??"..gahh!! Well one of them said I look different.."in a good way"...haha, I'm not sure what that means, but I'll take it.
Only my parents have noticed the weightloss..Ah well, that's somethin'. But like the others said, I bet people notice the difference, just not everyone says something.

tonight someone finally noticed!!!
guess who? a friend of my 20 year old daughter who just returned from college.
right before that, i just went out with my good friend and talked about jc and following the menu, and never once did she say anything about how i look.
so i think, "ok, that's what i've come to expect."
i come home. my daughter is home with 2 friends and one says to me, "Mom (that's what she calls me) you've lost weight!!!)" I told her that she was the first to notice.
so someone noticed!!!
BUT I'm ready to buy some new clothes and that will make ME feel better!!!!!!!! Off to the summer clothes sales!!!

That's awesome that somebody finally admitted to noticing. I think when people see you every day, they tend not to notice as much because the weight loss is so gradual; but, someone who hasn't seen you in a while gets to see all the loss at once, so it is much more noticeable to them.

I completely understand what you are going through!! I have lost 21 pounds in 5 weeks and probably about 15" total. And the only people who have said anything are my parents and my sister. My husband was always on my case to take the weight off and now that I have started to (39.1 pounds to go) HE SAYS NOTHING!!!!! It is very frustrating, I bust my butt at the gym 5-6 days a week. I JUST WANT SOMEONE/ANYONE TO NOTICE . Thank you all for letting me vent!!
Everyone KEEP up the good work, and keep coming here for the support we need!!!

I know that we want everybody to notice when we lose weight, but honestly, we should be doing this for ourselves.
Also, I find myself so absorbed with my own life, it is easy to miss someone else losing weight.
My mother's weight bounces around like a yo-yo and I never comment, because I have seen her at so many weights, I don't remember if she is up or down the next time I see her.

Also, try buying some new clothes that fit your new slimmer body. That will make a HUGE difference. If you're still walking around with loose clothing it's hard to tell. Believe me, if you used to wear say a 16 and then you now buy a 12 and wear those, people ARE going to notice.
Whether or not they will say anything is another story. Some women, especially, can't seem to find it in themselves to be gracious and supportive. Maybe that's why the younger kids can easily do so. They don't feel at all competitive with us.

I AM doing this for myself!!! I guess I am just a different person than others. I take the time to compliment others. Remember the saying "treat others how you would like to be treated"?? I am a FIRM believer in this. I make it a point to say nice things. It's ashame that others don't make the effort. That I guess is what makes the world go around--we are not all the same .

Hi, it's me again. Well, I've lost 25 pounds and gone from a size 12 to a size 8. I've reached my goal of 134 (I'm 5'8"). I bought new clothes like you suggested in a size 8 and it felt great. Also, some people have noticed!!!!! And I feel like I finally have my old body back. I walk lighter and feel more confident. I'm at the weight I was before my son was born, and he is 25!! I still am surprised that more people haven't said something, but I feel wonderful, and really that's why I did this. Thank you all for your support to keep me going. Support is what this is all about. And you were great!!! Thanks again,
Kathy

Hi, I just reread my first note to you. I realize that my weight loss numbers weren't what my goal had been. I decided to change my goal weight to a lower number. I knew I could do it with your support. So for you math people, that's why my original goal weight is higher than the number that I just gave. Kathy

So glad to hear of your success! Congratulations and I bet you look great! Good luck with maintenance. I'm doing ok so far but I feel like it is a very "slippery slope" back into those bad habits...

Absolutely -
No one commented that I had gained some weight (20 lbs - more than "some" in my opinion). And now, no one notices its coming off (12.2 lbs as of today! YAY). Just 8 to go.
I had lost a lot of weight in the past and kept it off for years (I gained this last year after my dad was dx with lung cancer and died in Feb 2006)...my husband could tell, but no one else ever said anything - I imagine because people don't say - "hey Jen, getting a little heavy there?"
Anyway, no one but me has noted my loss (ok, me and my my pants notice - which I may actually be able to wear again - I had been alternating between 2 pair, because that is all I had left that fit)...Not a single comment. Only once someone noticed the JC food and said "but you look fine."
Yes, I may look fine to you, but I don't feel fine (OK, my vent for the day, lol). It is how we feel in our clothes and about ourselves. I want to wear all my nice clothes that the extra 20 lbs don't allow. Just as important, I want to know I'm treating myself well by eating well (I totally lost control after my Dad died and went back to my night-binging). More than you wanted to know about be, but I do understand that its no fun when all the effort you put in appears not to be noticed.
FEEL GREAT ABOUT YOURSELF!! YOU ARE TAKING CHARGE AND YOU ARE DOING SO WELL!!

People have noticed - they just don't know how to tell you. They don't want to offend you. I felt the same way, but I have had two people tell me that someone else said I looked like I had lost weight.

I saw my doctor yesterday for a "sick visit" (migraines) anyway, they didnt weigh me, but I thought for sure he would notice that I had lost weight and say something... 17.5 lbs!! You would think that he would notice...well he didnt say a word In fact no one has said anything to me yet. Yes, I am doing it for myself but, It would be nice if someone would notice my hard work!

Marie, did you ever use soy products when you were vegetarian? I grew up on the canned and frozen soy protein substitutes and love them. A lot of them do seem to have a lot of fat and sodium, though. Since I've been on JC I've not eaten any of them except the low-fat "vegeburger" (vegetarian ground beef substitute). I enjoy the JC meals that have meat-substitutes in them (pancake breakfast being the fav).
