Hi,
Been on Jenny 3 weeks now and will be adding new topics to the vegetarian section. I am trying to get a group of us to be active participants on this site. The only way we will get more choices is if we are active and heard.

So here I am.. again.. attempting to go back to being vegitarian. The first time I was one for 3 years. More recently I have tried, and all my friends seemed to be having a party of some kind which always had meat in it so I failed miserably. I would like to attempt at it again, but this time I would like for it to be a bit more gradual. Slowly limiting the meats up untill Ive got it down. Why? Becaue Ive learned I lose weight faster when Im not eating meat. Strange but true. Anyways, just wanted to say hi.

I completely agree. We need to keep this active. I have been a vegetarian for over 9 years. I love it. Never really liked meat to begin with. I do eat dairy though.
I think we need to write directly to Jenny Craig herself or something to get Jenny Craig to listen to our food suggestions and stop making all of the food meat based. How about it?

yes! let's get this board started so they can hear us. i've been vegetarian for 23 years. i find that i always have to explain that being veggie doesn't always guarantee slimness. i am fairly new to jc. i wonder how long vegetarians have been crying for a greater variety of foods. do you think they (jenny craig ) are even interested in us? moheen

They are interested, in their own way, however, I guess the higher demand is for meat based items. Check out the Australian Jenny Craig web site. If you go to the main page of Jenny Craig, go to the bottom and their is a link to their site. Look at their food choices. THEY HAVE TONS OF VEGETARIAN STUFF. i wrote the dietician and she says the only reason that we can't get these foods in the states is because they have different suppliers. Whatever. I just wish I had time to pursue trying to reach someone in the higher ups to pursue more vegetarian choices. Anyone have time? I will help all I can. Let's all pool together.....Vegetarians rule....

Jenny Craig no longer owns the company - she is a silent partner, retired but still makes appearances.
And I will have to agree with someone saying being vegitarian doesnt make you skinny, when I was a vegitarian for 3 years I GAINED weight (and got really bad dizzy spells because I had no idea what I was doing).
But when I did the vegitarian weeks I always lost more. Maybe it was because I would do planned week 1-3 and then vegi that caused my body to react to that. Hmm guess I never really gave it much thought. Although I think for now it will force me to eat healthier things. Things had I of continued to eat meat wouldnt make time for. Like the pita pocket I made with cucumbers, mushrooms, jalenio, banana peppers, and vegi deli meat with JC ranch on it. OMG IT WAS TO DIE FOR!

Bikki, That is very interesting. I did not know that. I wonder how many people really know about that. Do you know who are the owners now? And maybe that is why they are able to franchise out their stores? Hmmmmmmm

I am also a vegitarian for 20 years. I also never liked meat, fish or chicken I do eat dairy. I had to read up alot to make sure I got the right vitamins. I lost 50lbs years ago when I stopped eating meat.Alot of people gain weight when they stop eating meat beacause all they know is to eat carbs. They don't know about other types of protien. This is one thing that concerns me on the JC diet. I am on Jenny Direct every two weeks I get a delivery of food which is always the same. It been 6 weeks I have only lost 6-lbs and I pretty much always stick. The problem is all the jenny food breakfast lunch and dinner is all carbs!! why there is very little protein in this diet, I am getting discouraged, I am spending alot of money andy going nowhere fast. I realize I don't have much to lose and I do exercise but I am starting to think I am not losing because of the Jenny food. I would appreciate some feedback from any who might feel the same.

Loveclay, it looks like you are on track. They say to lose 1-2 pounds a week. I was actually doing the low-carb for a while, while being a veggie, so I was scared to eat the foods since they did contain carbs. But I made goal. And only losing 1-2 pounds a week. My suggestion, drink lots of water, cut out sodas, watch your salt intake. Also, I would talk to your consultant and maybe they can give you some other feedback.
Hang in there, I know it seems tough, but you will ge there.

The program is designed for 60% Carb 20% protein and 20% fat. The only time you need a lot of protein is if you do a high level of weight training.
Personally I love all the carbs on the program. I think it's all the "carbs are bad" hype has coloured a lot of thinking
So you all know I am not vegetarian, but I am vegetarian friendly. In fact I have been making use of more products, like soy cheese and the like since they keep better. I am just not ready to give up beef and chicken.
I will definitely say the unlimited veg option is what kept me sane through the program

"do you think they (jenny craig ) are even interested in us?" moheen
They do listen, but I do not know what their problem is with giving us variety veggie wise. Even the non veggie people said that they would enjoy more variety in the veggie meal area.
When I started 3 years ago, they did not even have a veggie forum and then a bunch of us started complaining and before we knew it, we had our very own veggie forum. We were jumping up and down for joy. Someone else said that many, many years ago on JC they didn't even have any veggie meals to choose from, so I guess it is taking them a while to get into the groove with being more health orientated with us veggie people. Maybe it is their dietitian, I do not know. All we can do is make lots of phone calls, write lots of letters and send lots of messages all over the board. I have no clue as to which forum they read. I tried a few areas and received no response from JC.
I know for myself and from reading other clients messages that they have lost a lot of members because of it and many do buy some of their meals from their Health Food stores and from their grocery stores, just to have more of a selection.

hi, i just started JC on the veg plan, i'm amazed they only have 1 weeks worth of planned menu relative to the other plans. i definitely hope to see more variety in the future. i'm fortunate in that i can eat the same thing for a really long time without getting tired of it (then suddenly i'll find it inedible), we'll see how long i make it on JC meals! i am pleased that i like what i've had so far - paste fagioli, pasta ole, potato soup, the pancake & veggie sausage breakfast was good and my boyfriend was wandering around the kitchen saying HEY!!! that smells really tasty! i almost felt guilty... but not quite.
i haven't been vegetarian all that long (a few months) - have done it off and on through the years - but it feels healthiest to me, and with prepared meals i find i prefer meatless.
anyway big thumbs up from my end on keeping the veggie forum active and plugging for veggie interests with JC!
p.s. this was day 1 for me on JC, first time ever.

I'm so glad we finally got interest started in the vegetarian section again. I started
