CARLSBAD, CA; JUNE 14, 2011 – Ross Mathews, a television personality featured regularly on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and E!’s Chelsea Lately, has achieved his final weight loss goal of losing 40 pounds in 29 weeks* on the Jenny Craig Program. Mathews, who struggled with yo-yo dieting throughout his career, joined the Jenny Craig Program in November 2010, and credits his “secret weapon” to helping him achieve his 40-pound weight loss goal* and teaching him how to maintain that weight loss.
“My Jenny Consultant Michele is really my secret weapon when it comes to weight loss,” said Mathews. “She knows everything to help me stay on track, from what to order at an Italian restaurant, to how to keep active while traveling, to tips on how to keep my hand out of the cookie jar on a really bad day. She is my coach, my friend, my cheerleader and my dose of tough love. I don’t know how I would have reached my weight loss goal without what she has taught me.”
Mathews said that through his consultant Michele he has learned how to change his eating and activity habits, and has adopted a healthier outlook toward weight loss and maintenance.
“I can tell you first-hand that losing the weight is one thing, and then maintaining that weight loss is a whole other beast,” said Mathews. “Nobody wants to lose weight only to gain it back, which is why it’s important that you learn strategies and tips to adopt long-term healthier lifestyle changes. That’s where my secret weapon – my Jenny Consultant Michele – comes in. She taught me that being healthy is a lifestyle, not a fad diet.”
One of Mathews’ favorite tips from his Jenny Consultant mirrors the new USDA guidelines about the proportions of food groups on a plate, which promotes eating almost half a plate of fresh fruits and vegetables. This approach mimics the Volumetrics® principles exclusive to the Jenny Craig Program, which encourages clients to consume more fresh fruits and vegetables to feel satiated with less calories.
“One of the easiest tips from my Jenny Consultant is to divide your plate into fourths: one-fourth is starch, one-fourth is protein, and one-half is non-starchy vegetables. Once you get that proportion down, you’re on a great track to feeling better and improving your health,” said Mathews.
Mathews added he was inspired to join the top weight loss program after seeing the success of his friend (and fellow spokesperson) Sara Rue lose 50 pounds* and bare her body in a bikini for the first time in her life in April 2011.
“Watching Sara’s weight loss journey and true transformation – both physically and mentally – has really been motivating for me,” said Mathews. “I saw her become so much more confident, and I knew that I didn’t want my weight to hold me back any more. I wanted to be the best me I could be, and that included losing 40 pounds* and getting healthier.”
Mathews and Rue both showed off their slimmer figures at Rue’s nuptials to Kevin Price in May 2011.
Dana Fiser, Head of North America Business of Jenny Craig Inc., said she has seen the impact the weight loss has had on Ross Mathews.
“When you struggle with the cycle of losing weight and gaining it back, it takes a toll on your confidence about whether you can achieve a healthy balance,” said Fiser. “With Ross, not only has he hit his 40-pound weight loss goal,* but now he’s armed with the tools to keep that weight off through the strategies he learned from his Jenny Consultant Michele. He has the knowledge– and subsequently – the power over his weight now, which is what the Jenny Craig Program is all about: helping people find a healthy approach to living. This weight loss accomplishment is a huge win for him both physically and mentally. I am thrilled to see what he will go on to accomplish next.”
Mathews serves as a brand ambassador for Jenny Craig alongside celebrity spokespeople Carrie Fisher (“Wishful Drinking”), Valerie Bertinelli (“Hot in Cleveland”), Sara Rue (“Shedding for the Wedding”), Nicole Sullivan (“$#*!My Dad Says”) and Jason Alexander (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”).
*Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 pounds per week.
