Fun Family Fitness
An active family is a healthy family. Unfortunately, all too often, work deadlines and busy schedules prevent us from making the time to be active with our children.
Now is the perfect time to - literally - step up to the plate and model healthy exercise behaviors for our children. After all, we are their best role models…and whether it's choosing an apple versus a candy bar for a snack, or opting for a game of whiffleball instead of another computer game, they learn from our good examples.
It doesn't have to be much - even a half hour a few times a week can contribute toward a healthier lifestyle. You may want to start by holding a family meeting and brainstorming enjoyable ways to be more active together.
Here Are Three Ways To Get Everyone Moving While Having Fun At The Same Time:
- Head for the hills. Gather leaves, jump over branches, and enjoy the beauty of nature as you get a good hiking workout.
- Play with your children. Recapture the spontaneity of youth with games like tag, hide and seek, and touch football. Or just go to a playground … and climb up the ladders, slide down the slides, and build your biceps on the monkey bars.
- Be on the lookout for scheduled fitness events in which the whole family can participate, such as 5k walks for charitable organizations. The older children can walk, the younger ones can be pushed in strollers, but just about everyone will enjoy a good workout for a worthy cause
